Australian quartet Flyying Colours are set to make a storming return in 2020 with their second album ‘Fantasy Country’, and have released their gloriously ethereal new single ‘Goodtimes’, which showcases their impeccable duel vocals and pop sensibility.
‘Goodtimes’ is “sort of about the opposite”. Songwriter Brodie J Brümmer tells us that “the chorus is something I would repeat to myself in my head before a tour or playing a show or going to a show. Sometimes anyone and everyone can find it difficult to leave the house. It’s a reminder to yourself that “you’re gonna have a good time” - don’t be scared to go out, don’t waste your life.”
An anthem for the anxious, ‘Goodtimes’ contrasts the bands blissful sun-soaked sound with darker, introspective lyrics and delicate delivery, each textured harmony perfectly balanced against their more 90s psychedelic influences. Founders Brümmer and Gemma O'Connor quickly became mainstays of the thriving Melbourne shoegaze scene in 2013, and joined by bassist Melanie Barbaro and drummer Andy Lloyd Russell they released two critically acclaimed EPs and debut album ‘Mindfullness’. The band have toured with The Jesus & Mary Chain, Johnny Marr, The Black Angels, Brian Jonestown Massacre, A Place To Bury Strangers, Pinkshinyultrablast and many more, as well as headlining their own international dates.
They’ve received heavy rotation on radio stations worldwide, including KEXP, BBC 6Music, JJJ, RRR and FBi. They hit #47 on the CMJ Radio top 200 in the states, sat in the UK’s Amazing Radio charts for weeks, and have been championed by NME, The 405, Stereogum, Wonderland, The Line Of Best Fit, Drowned In Sound, Clash Magazine and more.
The recording of their expansive new LP ‘Fantasy Country’ was an exhaustive one and they admit to not knowing if it would ever see completion. Slaving over guitar sounds and taking time to experiment with new techniques and effects above a shopfront on Sydney Road, they worked to create just the right tone for their anticipated follow-up.

“I feel like you can hear the welcome struggle in the songs sometimes” we’re told, “but that could just be me”.
